If you’ve dropped by here before, you’ll notice there is a decidedly new look about the place, especially the name on the header. This is still my mess in progress, but there’s a simple reason for the redecoration: I have a book coming out September 29, 2016.

Now available for pre-order on Amazon.com, Surviving 30 Days of Literary Madness: Getting Through NaNoWriMo With Your Sanity and Sense of Humor (Hopefully) Intact is a series of daily meditations for authors participating in National Novel Writing Month. Growing out of my November posts from prior years, as well as my experience performing the annual ritual madness since 2002, the book is designed to provide support, encouragement, and the occasional kick in the pants for my fellow WriMos.
We start with October and preparations for the weeks ahead, before kicking things into high gear with Halloween and the Midnight Kick-Off. For 30 days, you are offered a quote and brief essay, along with additional pieces to cover some of the other situations that arise. We talk about Thanksgiving (Turkey! Pie! Family drama!), those days when the world conspires to keep you from your keyboard, what to do if you fall behind — and that dreadful moment when you reach for words, only to find that the well is dry.
Beyond November, you’ll find some next steps, with a view to helping you make writing more central to your life, not just for 30 days, but all year round.
NaNoWriMo will be here sooner than we realize. (So will Christmas decorations in stores, but we’re going to ignore that.) Let’s make it through together.
